Who we are
Ask Alfred is run by AskAlfred Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, registered office in Cambridge, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR, we're the data controller for the information described here. Any question about this policy or your data goes to ceo@alfredanswered.com.
What we collect
We only collect what Alfred needs to do the job you've asked him to do.
What you give us directly
- Your name, email address, company details and the answers you give us during setup
- The documents you upload: accounts, bank statements, invoices, and anything else you choose to give Alfred
- Messages you send us, including anything you ask Alfred through the app
What we collect from services you connect
Only if you choose to connect them, and only ever read-only, we never write to your books or move your money without your say-so.
- Accounting data from Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent or similar, if you connect one
- Transaction and balance data from your bank, if you connect it through open banking
- Company details from Companies House, to confirm who you are
What we collect automatically
Basic technical information (device, browser, pages visited) to keep the product working and secure. When you sign up for early access, Cloudflare's Turnstile check may set a short-lived cookie to confirm you're a person and not a bot. We don't use advertising trackers.
What we use it for
- To run the product: process your documents, generate findings, forecast your cash, prepare your year-end pack, and answer your questions
- To route anything regulated to a qualified professional, rather than have Alfred decide it
- To keep you posted about early access, product updates and service messages
- To keep the service secure and stop misuse
Who we share it with
- The qualified professional you link to your account, if you link one, so they can review and certify what Alfred finds
- The hosting, storage and AI providers that run the service on our behalf, under contract, and never for their own purposes
- Nobody else. We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone outside the people above
Where your data lives
Your records are hosted in the EU: our database sits in London, and documents are stored in EU-region storage. Every client's data lives in its own separate, isolated space; it's never mixed with anyone else's, and no other client can ever see it.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet our legal and accounting obligations. After that, we delete or anonymise it. You can ask us to delete your data sooner, see below.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to:
- Show you the data we hold about you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete your data (you can also do this yourself from Settings inside the app)
- Restrict or object to how we use it
- Give you a copy in a portable format
Email ceo@alfredanswered.com for any of the above. If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for any change that matters, let you know directly.
